King’s Cross Church of Nashville

Jesus details the coming age, beginning with the events surrounding his death, resurrection, and ascension, and culminating in his return. The church will face many things in this time, but above all, Jesus calls us to stay watchful. A watchful life is characterized by: (1) deception-proof intimacy with Jesus; (2) Spirit-empowered gospel proclamation through resistance; (3) prayerful perseverance through suffering; and (4) total devotion to God. 

Many people treat Jesus like a good moral teacher or a life coach. Others think of him as just an American deity, or the author of an oppressive religion. Is it possible we’re responding to a “Jesus” who never existed?

Through faith in Christ, the One who perfectly loves God and others, we are forgiven of our failure to love and given the Spirit who awakens love in us.

Jesus desires His people to know God in a deep and loving relationship.

In a confrontation with the religious leaders of Jerusalem, Jesus exposes their false, idolatrous authority, and reveals that no manmade organization or entity—whether governmental, religious, or otherwise—has ultimate authority over the church or the individual. Yet, neither does he endorse the authority of the "sovereign self." Christ is claiming ultimate authority for himself. God rules over the church and the individual through Christ, and we are to submit to him.

Jesus enters the temple and finds corrupt religion. The Jewish religious system has become characterized by human control, commercialization, and exclusion. Jesus is going to replace this entire temple system and create a new "temple": a community of faith, prayer, and forgiveness.
